St. Michael Preschool on Makin Island has celebrated its inaugural Cultural Day on Tuesday.
Raieta Karaiti, the Women’s Interest Worker on the island, told Radio Kiribati News that the event featured a local dance competition, traditional costumes, and a remarkable array of local dishes.
Pre-school teacher Ruuti Teekantarawa expressed excitement about the success of this first event, emphasizing plans to incorporate even more engaging activities in the future.
The highlight of the day was the food competition, with Nei Einako Tebenati taking home the title for the most diverse selection, presenting 23 different dishes. Jacob Taberanteatu, Maiti Toom and Robuti Ruabeta came second with 19 while Tite Teakamatang came third with 18 varieties.
Guests witnessing the event include Catechist Tabera Bauro and Leader of Makin Parish Tiaoni Timon.
