Kiribati will soon be able to have a new law that will guide the use of digital ID in the country.
A statement from the Kiribati Digital Government Project (KDGP) said the law, which is in its preparatory and early drafting stage, will provide some legal foundation for a secure, reliable and inclusive digital ID system. T
KDGP said it is engaging with the MK Attorneys & Solicitors to draft the new law.
As part of the information gathering activities, a stakeholder retreat workshop was initiated on the 22 – 24 November 2024 and held in Tarabuka, Buariki in North Tarawa.
The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is the lead implementing agency for this digital ID component of the KDGP project in collaboration with the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) from the Ministry of Information, Communication and Transport (MICT).
The workshop was attended by various stakeholders such as Kiribati Police Service, Ministry of Tourism, Commerce, Industries and Corporative and the Immigration division.
