Two newly appointed officers from the Police Maritime Unit are currently undergoing training in Cairns, Australia, to acquire the skills necessary to operate and maintain Kiribati’s newly acquired Guardian-class Patrol Boats, RKS Tobwaan Mainiku and RKS Teanoai II.

A statement from the Australian High Commission highlighted the duo’s eagerness and commitment to their important roles aboard the patrol boats.

RKS Tobwaan Mainiku, Kiribati’s second Guardian-class Patrol Boat, represents a significant commitment by the Australian Government under the Tobwaan te Reitaki Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at enhancing Kiribati’s maritime domain awareness and surveillance capabilities.

The patrol boats are expected to arrive in Kiribati in November.
