Director of Education Ruuta Tekeraoi recently announced the Ministry of Education’s report on student numbers in Kiribati during the grand opening of National Education Week at the Sport Complex in Betio.

The report reveals that over the past three years, the average national student population across Kiribati is 42,200. This includes approximately 9,200 preschool students, 18,000 primary school students, 8,000 junior secondary students, and 7,000 senior secondary students.

To accommodate this student body, Kiribati has 419 established schools: 277 preschools, 97 primary schools, 25 junior secondary schools, and 20 senior secondary schools.

Additionally, Tekeraoi noted that the average total number of teachers across these institutions is 2,300, with 760 teachers dedicated to preschool education, 740 to primary education, 400 to junior secondary education, and 400 to senior secondary education.
